GLUCOSE-MGH: Genetic Links Understood Through Challenge With Oral Semaglutide Exposure at MGH

Testing how genetics affect the body’s blood sugar response to oral semaglutide in type 2 diabetes

📍 Massachusetts General Hospital · Boston, MA · Get directions →

The goal of this research study is to evaluate the pathophysiologic mechanisms by which genetic variation impacts response to an FDA-approved medication commonly used to treat type 2 diabetes called oral semaglutide (Rybelsus) and to characterize the physiological response to a mixed meal tolerance test (MMTT) before and after a 14-day treatment with oral semaglutide. The investigators will do this by measuring factors in the blood, such as sugars, fats, metabolites, and proteins, after eating a standardized breakfast meal at the first visit and after taking 14 doses of oral semaglutide over two weeks before the second study visit.

Mechanism of SGLT2 Inhibition in the Kidney

Testing how SGLT2 medicines affect kidney function in type 2 diabetes

    💵 May compensate

📍 University of Michigan · Ann Arbor, MI · Get directions →

The goal of this open-label, non-randomized clinical trial is to determine what effects, if any, an FDA-approved drug class known as SGLT2 inhibitors (Canagliflozin or INVOKANA) has any protective effects on kidney function in Type 2 diabetes. We are looking for participants 18-80 years of age, who have had a clinical diagnosis of Type 2 diabetes for ≥ 3 years.

Glycemic and Weight Loss Effects of GLP-1R Agonist Therapy in Subjects With Spinal Cord Injury and Type 2 Diabetes

Testing how semaglutide affects blood sugar and weight in people with spinal cord injury and type 2

    💵 May compensate

📍 University Health - Texas Diabetic Institute · San Antonio, TX · +1 more US site · Get directions →

It is not known whether a new diabetes drug, semaglutide, is an effective treatment for type 2 diabetes for persons with spinal cord injury (SCI), a population at higher risk for this condition. Therefore, this study looks at the effect of semaglutide on glucose levels in the body and other information about type 2 diabetes and obesity.

  • Type 2 diabetes

Normal-weight Diabetes: Adipocyte-directed Therapy With Pioglitazone or Tirzepatide

Testing how fat cells and body fat patterns differ in people with type 2 diabetes, and whether

📍 Stanford University · Palo Alto, CA · +1 more US site · Get directions →

This study is to investigate how adipocyte (fat cell) function and fat distribution differ between individuals with normal-weight type 2 diabetes (NWD), those with overweight type 2 diabetes (OWD), and normal-weight controls without diabetes (NWC). The study will assess whether adipocyte-directed therapies, specifically pioglitazone and tirzepatide, can improve insulin resistance, adipocyte function, and fat distribution in individuals with NWD.

  • Type 2 diabetes

📍 Childrens hospital colorado · Denver, CO · Get directions →

SGLT2 inhibitors have demonstrated to mitigate cardiorenal risk in people with type 2 diabetes and are likely to play an increasingly large role in the treatment of patients with diabetes, chronic kidney disease and hypertension. Yet the underlying mechanisms of its protective effects are incompletely understood and the salutary effect may be altered by dietary factors such as sodium intake.
