Efficacy and Safety of Sodium-Glucose Cotransporter-2 Inhibitors in Adolescents With Early Stages of Chronic Kidney Disease
Testing kidney disease drug effects and safety in teens with early CKD
📍 Instituto de atención Integral de Enfermedades Renales del Estado de Aguascalientes · Aguascalientes, Aguascalientes · Get directions →
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is highly prevalent in the state of Aguascalientes, Mexico, particularly among adolescents and young adults. Epidemiologic and histologic studies suggest that this burden is largely driven by reduced nephron endowment of prenatal origin, leading to compensatory glomerular hyperfiltration, adaptive podocytopathy, and persistent albuminuria at early stages of disease.

Mechanism of SGLT2 Inhibition in the Kidney
Testing how SGLT2 medicines affect kidney function in type 2 diabetes
📍 University of Michigan · Ann Arbor, MI · Get directions →
The goal of this open-label, non-randomized clinical trial is to determine what effects, if any, an FDA-approved drug class known as SGLT2 inhibitors (Canagliflozin or INVOKANA) has any protective effects on kidney function in Type 2 diabetes. We are looking for participants 18-80 years of age, who have had a clinical diagnosis of Type 2 diabetes for ≥ 3 years.

Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), formerly known as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), a major global public health concern, is commonly associated with obesity, diabetes, and dyslipidemia. MASLD is currently the most common cause of chronic liver disease affecting about 80% of people with obesity, ranging from simple fat deposits in the liver to Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatohepatitis (MASH), cellular injury, advanced fibrosis, cirrhosis, or hepatocellular carcinoma.

Individualized Pharmacological Approach to Obesity in Patients With Bipolar Disorder
Testing how to choose weight-loss medicines for people with bipolar disorder
📍 Mayo Clinic · Rochester, MN · Get directions →
The goal of this clinical trial is to identify the specific characteristics (phenotypes) that may be useful to help select the right medication for weight loss, and to study the effect of individualized guided medication in patients with bipolar disorder ages 18-65. The main questions it aims to answer are: * Can the investigators compare the distribution of obesity characteristics (hungry brain, hungry gut, emotional hunger) between bipolar patients and non-bipolar participants (comparing from IRB #24-002375)?
