Efficacy and Safety of Sodium-Glucose Cotransporter-2 Inhibitors in Adolescents With Early Stages of Chronic Kidney Disease
Testing kidney disease drug effects and safety in teens with early CKD
📍 Instituto de atención Integral de Enfermedades Renales del Estado de Aguascalientes · Aguascalientes, Aguascalientes · Get directions →
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is highly prevalent in the state of Aguascalientes, Mexico, particularly among adolescents and young adults. Epidemiologic and histologic studies suggest that this burden is largely driven by reduced nephron endowment of prenatal origin, leading to compensatory glomerular hyperfiltration, adaptive podocytopathy, and persistent albuminuria at early stages of disease.

Mechanism of SGLT2 Inhibition in the Kidney
Testing how SGLT2 medicines affect kidney function in type 2 diabetes
📍 University of Michigan · Ann Arbor, MI · Get directions →
The goal of this open-label, non-randomized clinical trial is to determine what effects, if any, an FDA-approved drug class known as SGLT2 inhibitors (Canagliflozin or INVOKANA) has any protective effects on kidney function in Type 2 diabetes. We are looking for participants 18-80 years of age, who have had a clinical diagnosis of Type 2 diabetes for ≥ 3 years.

Fibrosis Lessens After Metabolic Surgery
Testing whether metabolic surgery can reduce liver scarring in obesity
📍 Banner Health Center · Phoenix, AZ · +3 more US sites · Get directions →
Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), formerly known as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), a major global public health concern, is commonly associated with obesity, diabetes, and dyslipidemia. MASLD is currently the most common cause of chronic liver disease affecting about 80% of people with obesity, ranging from simple fat deposits in the liver to Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatohepatitis (MASH), cellular injury, advanced fibrosis, cirrhosis, or hepatocellular carcinoma.

Sotagliflozin to Slow Kidney Function Decline in Persons With Type 1 Diabetes and Diabetic Kidney Disease
Testing whether sotagliflozin can slow kidney damage in type 1 diabetes
📍 Stanford University Medical Center · Stanford, CA · +12 more US sites · Get directions →
Powerful new drugs that can prevent or delay end stage kidney disease (ESKD) - so called sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) - are now available for patients with type 2 diabetes. Whether these drugs have similar effects in patients with type 1 diabetes (T1D) remains unknown because of the few studies in this population, due to concerns about the increase in risk of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA, a serious, potentially fatal acute complication of diabetes due to the accumulation of substances called ketone bodies) observed with SGLT2i therapy in T1D.

Maridebart Cafraglutide in Heart Failure With Preserved or Mildly Reduced Ejection Fraction and Obesity
Testing maridebart cafraglutide with standard care to reduce heart failure events in obese people
📍 University of Alabama Saint Vincent's Birmingham · Birmingham, AL · +39 more US sites · Get directions →
This trial will examine if maridebart cafraglutide as an adjunct to standard of care will lead to a reduction in heart failure (HF) events such as HF hospitalizations and urgent HF visits, cardiovascular (CV) deaths and improvement in HF symptoms in participants with HF with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) and HF with mildly reduced ejection fraction (HFmrEF) who are obese. This is a phase 3, global, multicenter, 2-part trial with a double-blind period and an open-label extension (OLE).

Optimizing Portal Hypertension With TIPS and Interval Metabolic Surgery for Advanced Liver Disease
Testing treatments to lower high pressure in liver veins in people with advanced liver disease and
📍 Cleveland Clinic Main Campus · Cleveland, OH · Get directions →
Cirrhosis is a form of advanced liver disease that can lead to serious complications, especially when combined with severe obesity. Many patients with cirrhosis also develop a condition called clinically significant portal hypertension (CSPH), which is increased pressure in the veins of the liver.

Individualized Pharmacological Approach to Obesity in Patients With Bipolar Disorder
Testing how to choose weight-loss medicines for people with bipolar disorder
📍 Mayo Clinic · Rochester, MN · Get directions →
The goal of this clinical trial is to identify the specific characteristics (phenotypes) that may be useful to help select the right medication for weight loss, and to study the effect of individualized guided medication in patients with bipolar disorder ages 18-65. The main questions it aims to answer are: * Can the investigators compare the distribution of obesity characteristics (hungry brain, hungry gut, emotional hunger) between bipolar patients and non-bipolar participants (comparing from IRB #24-002375)?

Metformin for Antipsychotic-induced Weight Gain in Adults With Intellectual Disability
Testing metformin for weight gain caused by antipsychotic drugs in adults with intellectual
📍 Centre for Addiction and Mental Health · Toronto, Ontario · Get directions →
People with IDD (intellectual and developmental disability) have very high rates of obesity and die prematurely from cardiometabolic disease. While antipsychotics contribute to this problem, their use is necessary and appropriate in a significant subgroup of individuals with IDD.
