What is this study?
Randomized controlled trial of soluble fiber (Fruitafit Inulin). Participants will complete an ASA 24 dietary recall questionnaire to access their fiber intake.

Randomized controlled trial of soluble fiber (Fruitafit Inulin). Participants will complete an ASA 24 dietary recall questionnaire to access their fiber intake. If eligible for the study, participants will be supplemented to their target fiber dosage with either soluble fiber (Fruitafit Inulin) or placebo. Collection of blood serum, fecal samples, and nasal wash will aid in analyzing the microbes present in one's gut and how fiber and diet may impact it. Thus, allowing researchers to better understand the pathways that may connect diet and asthma and if it is possible to improve asthma by altering one's diet.

✅ You may be able to join if…
- •Ages 6 to 17
- •Have an asthma diagnosis within the last 2 years
- •Have FeNO greater than 50 ppb OR a history of environmental allergies confirmed by skin prick or specific IgE blood tests
- •No emergency department visits in the past 1 month
- •Can drink the fiber/placebo and come back for a 4–6 week follow-up
🚫 You may not be able to join if…
- •Have cystic fibrosis
- •Have bronchiectasis
- •Plan to change asthma medicines other than short-acting bronchodilators during the next 4–6 weeks
- •Have baseline estimated daily fiber intake less than or equal to 16 grams (from the ASA 24 food recall)
- •Are a sibling of someone already enrolled

What is this study testing?+

Is it safe? Who makes sure of that?+
This is a mid-stage study (Phase 2), looking at safety and whether the treatment works. Every study is reviewed and monitored by an independent ethics board (called an IRB) whose job is to protect participants, and care is overseen by licensed medical staff. Will I get a placebo instead of the real treatment?+

Is my information private?+
Yes. Your health information is only shared with the study sites you choose to be contacted by, and only to help match and enroll you. It is never sold, and you can ask us to delete it at any time.
