What is this study?
This study will examine the effects of brain stimulation on pain symptoms associated with Major depressive disorder. This study will enroll 54 Subjects.

This study will examine the effects of brain stimulation on pain symptoms associated with Major depressive disorder. This study will enroll 54 Subjects. Study subjects will be asked to complete surveys about their mood and well-being, 2 blood draws, 2 MRIs, 3 electroencephalograms, and receive 30 treatments of blinded transcranial magnetic stimulation. There is no control group as all subjects will receive some form of active treatment. Subjects are required to participate in 30-33 study visits and volunteer 40 hours of their time. Compensation for this study is $150 for completing all study activities.

✅ You may be able to join if…
- •Ages 18-75
- •Fluent English (able to answer study questions so the study team feels you understand)
- •Right-handed
- •Have confirmed moderate major depressive disorder (MDD) with a minimum HAM-D17 score of 17
- •Have confirmed FM or ME/CFS diagnoses, moderate pain complaints (McGill Pain Questionnaire minimum 15), and pain for at least 3 months
🚫 You may not be able to join if…
- •Pregnant
- •Unable to give informed consent because of mental or legal incapacity
- •Have an active suicidal intent or plan
- •Have had prior transcranial magnetic stimulation treatment
- •Have epilepsy, stroke/cerebrovascular disease, dementia, increased pressure in the brain, severe/repetitive head trauma history, or brain tumors (or other listed neurological conditions)

What is this study testing?+

Is it safe? Who makes sure of that?+

Will I get a placebo instead of the real treatment?+

No. You do not need health insurance to take part in a research study, and you will not be asked about your immigration status to join. Taking part is about whether you're a medical fit for the study.

You have the right to understand everything before you agree. Study sites can often provide materials or an interpreter in your language — you can ask the coordinator for one.
Is my information private?+
Yes. Your health information is only shared with the study sites you choose to be contacted by, and only to help match and enroll you. It is never sold, and you can ask us to delete it at any time.
